WORKER GUIDE / FIRST EDITION

Pick and pack an order

In this guide

Keep one order in its labeled tote, then check the package before completing the work.

Before you start

Use an enrolled phone or tablet, your worker PIN, an empty labeled tote and a ready practice order in ToteCue. A ready order is one offered for picking in the worker app. Your administrator controls photo and label requirements.

Start with a ready order

  1. Open the worker app, choose your worker name, enter the PIN and choose Start work.
  2. From Worker home, choose Select next order. See order priorities to decide what comes next.
  3. Choose Scan bin QR and scan an empty tote, or open Select bin manually and choose that empty bin.
  4. Confirm the order and bin are the ones you intend to use.

The QR stays on the bin across orders. Do not use a tote occupied by someone else’s work.

Follow the visual guide

  1. Use each product picture, variant and quantity to identify the item.
  2. Place the items in the paired tote and confirm the displayed lines as you pick.
  3. Choose Pack this order now to continue yourself, or Hand off for packing for another worker.
  4. Keep the tote and order together. The packer opens that tote’s work and chooses Start packing.

Product barcodes are not required for core visual picking. Check the ordered size, colour and other options carefully. If your version shows Check variant, treat it as a reminder to read those options.

When View images is available, open a product picture to enlarge it and use Previous, Next and Close. Other catalog pictures may show different variants. Viewing pictures does not select an item or count as a packing photo. Close the picture to read complete item details.

  1. Check items and quantities again while packing. Use Mark packed and the quantity confirmations shown for each line.
  2. Capture a packing photo if required. An explicit saved-reason override records an exception, not photo evidence.
  3. If label checking is enabled, use Scan shipping label and review the result. A required match must pass before completion.
  4. When the package is ready and blocking issues are resolved, choose Complete package.

The same person may do both stages; packing remains a separate check. See Quality checks for photo modes and manual label recovery.

You are done when

Wait for confirmation that completion is saved and the bin is released for reuse. A completed package is an operational record, not independent proof of carrier pickup, delivery or a Shopify refund.

Raise a problem when you find it

For a missing or damaged item, choose Item unavailable, record the unavailable quantity and reason, then choose Report & pause package. Do not complete uncertain work. If the item is found, use the displayed found-item resolution to resume.

An administrator reviews held work in Needs attention. Refunds and inventory corrections happen in Shopify. Follow the issue-resolution guide.

If a bin or scan blocks you

  • Bin occupied: keep its order together. Choose a genuinely empty bin or ask an administrator to resolve held work; do not clear another worker’s package to free a tote.
  • QR unreadable: improve lighting, flatten the label and check camera permission. Use the available-bin list when offered. Reprint the existing label if damaged.
  • No ready order: ask the administrator to refresh orders and check eligibility for the current stage.
  • Tracking mismatch: stop and check the package, label and order. Use label recovery; never guess a reference.

Recover after a connection or sign-in problem

Keep using the same browser where the device was set up; avoid private browsing. If sign-in returns you to device setup, ask for a new setup code. On a shared device, log out when you finish.

If a save is unconfirmed, reopen the bin and read its current status before repeating the action. If a button is greyed out, check for an unfinished item, count or required check. Keep the items together and ask your administrator when unsure.
